Runnin’ Free: June

runnin' free ranch

Gratitude and Thanks

Wow — it’s hard to believe we’re already in June! May was an incredibly busy and blessed month here at Runnin’ Free Ranch, and we are so thankful for the abundance of support and goodness surrounding us.

We had the honor of participating in the Battlefield Home Event, where we learned valuable ways to better serve our veterans.

Our Seen Through Horses Campaign successfully wrapped up, and we’re thrilled to share that we met our goal of raising $3,000! A heartfelt thank you to all the amazing donors who believed in our mission and generously gave. We are especially grateful to our matching donor who contributed $1,500 to help us reach our goal — truly, God is good! Running the ranch involves many expenses, and we remain forever thankful for every donor who makes this work possible. Your generosity fuels our mission and changes lives.

On another joyful note, our ranch family is growing! We warmly welcomed Elvis, Amy’s new service dog, whose sweet eyes and loving spirit bring so much joy and companionship. Elvis is trained to retrieve items like her phone, keys, or pens and can help open and close doors — tasks that can be stressful and challenging when no one is around to help. His presence brings comfort and support, and he’s already become a cherished part of daily life at the Ranch.

We also welcomed Caitlin Bohanan, a graduate student studying clinical mental health at Tarleton State University. Caitlin’s passion for people and animals shines brightly, and she’s found the perfect place to intern, love, and serve. Her energy and heart are a blessing to us all. It’s beautiful to witness how God is arranging every piece as we grow, all in pursuit of our dream: to help as many individuals as possible embark on a transformative journey toward life, hope, and freedom. Thank you for being part of the Runnin’ Free Ranch family as we continue this incredible journey together!

Off the Hoof with Eli

Hey hey, it’s Eli here — your favorite miniature pony with a big heart!

Today, I got to hang out with this sweet little boy who was feeling pretty nervous and unsure of himself. When he started brushing me (which, by the way, is one of my FAVORITE things EVER), I turned my head to give him a little “thank you” — you know, pony style!

But oh boy… his face totally said he thought I was mad at him. Nope, nope, nope! I was just being curious and grateful. Sometimes I forget how tricky human feelings can be — especially when you’re not used to people looking at you with kindness.

I’ve learned that healthy boundaries are a big deal — even for ponies! We all need reminders now and then, but that’s what helps our friendships stay happy and safe. I’m trying to help him see that when I look at him like that, it’s not anger — it’s affection and trust.

Learning to look through a confident lens (instead of a fearful one) takes time, but it sure changes the way we see the world — and ourselves.

Humans can be a little confusing sometimes, but I love my time with them — goofy moments and all. Can’t wait to drum up some fun next time!
